Understanding the Unique Characteristics of Fine Water

Smiling woman in a white shirt holding her collar out. She is a water sommelierDid you know that water, like wine, has unique characteristics and terrior giving waters from around the world and sources different tastes and stories? In this episode of Eating at a Meeting, I chat with Fine Water Sommeliers Cori Bokath and Christine Hilgert of H2U Fine Water about the journey, story, and distinct differences of fine waters. Spring and artesian waters are just the start, as tree, rain, and iceberg waters boast their own bountiful beauty. Learn why to drink these fine waters and how to incorporate them into your catering beverage programs and/or events.

What do safe, inclusive & sustainable food and beverage experiences look like to you?

As it pertains to water, helping guests/attendees experience the joy of drinking naturally sourced water from a variety of different sources.

A smiling woman with long blond hair wearing a white shirt and blazer. She is a water sommelierDo you have an example of a situation that negatively effected you and/or other individuals or groups’ food and beverage experience?

I think it’s important to point out that many times large corporations are selling and marketing water under different ruses, and our goal as water sommeliers is to help shed light on why drinking natural water is important and what to look out for.

What do you wish people knew about what you do?

That we offer not only unique water tasting experiences, but offer education for guests and chefs, on the unique terrior that water has, similar to wine.

What is a best practice you use/or have seen to create safe and inclusive F&B experiences?

When we speak about water, we emphasize the overall importance of drinking natural waters, not purified or distilled or high in alkalinity, etc. that are based on big companies and big marketing budgets.

What is your favorite food and your favorite drink?

Cori: I love pairing spicy Asian cuisine with a gorgeous sparkling water.
